I started a painting! hooray! so excited! This one I am going to try a technique I haven't tried yet: paint entire painting in black and white, and then go over with transparent glazes to add color at the end. This is a technique a lot of colorblind artists use, they will do a black and white piece, and someone else will do the color. I am trying it just to focus on the values and try to get those right without all the distractions of figuring out colors.
J.K. Woodward (artist for Fallen Angel) is one artist who uses the b/w - color glaze technique. He uses airbrush for colors. I don't think he's colorblind tho.
Still a loooong way to go, this is maybe 2-3 hours in. Spent most of my time on the mask so far.

first pass/blocking in values.
Study of mask. Drew this because I didn't put enough tone in my initial sketch, which does nada for a painting. Was trying to figure out what was going on with shadows and such.
