did a sketch of the bathroom taps tonight, and then played around with the drawing by tracing it, and then further coloring/fixing mistakes in Photoshop. Mundane subject matter, but i like the look of the drawing.

i have such an exciting life, i draw bathroom stuff on sunday night. :P it's fun for me anyway!

here's some process drawings & pics:

step 1: pencil sketch

step 2: trace over pencil sketch with ink (done on vellum paper so original sketch is not messed up)

sketching walks

woods.jpg
graphite

This was sketched on a walk thru Whitemud Ravine last weekend. Really pretty down there in the springtime. Found a good quiet spot in the trees and sat and sketched for a while. Discovered I need to bring a portable stool or something to sit on if I'm doing outdoor sketching. Cuz sometimes I saw something that I would like to sketch, but there was nowhere to sit (I sat on a log for this drawing). I took photos too, but drawing from life is better.

visual review of The Other Boleyn Girl

boleyn.jpg
digital collage, mixed media

This is a collage I've been working on for a while, finished it a couple weeks ago but hadn't gotten around to putting it up yet. It's my response to the movie The Other Boleyn Girl. Very good movie, I didn't know quite what to expect when I went to see it, and was pleasantly surprised and disturbed at the same time. A dark and twisting, backstabbing story. The hand in the collage represents Anne Boleyn, and the cards in the background are the result of her relentless pursuit of the throne.

another ink splat drawing.

same ink splat, except this drawing is done by my sister.

I always find it interesting how people get the same school project, or in this case, same ink splat, and see or interpret it totally differently.

ink splats

birdpoop.jpg
ink

These drawings are from last Sunday, I had some fun with ink splats. Made these by just putting some ink down on a page ( a good size blob) and then blasting it with air from a compressed air can, to make interesting marks on the page. Then I took a look at the resulting ink splat and created a drawing from it. Pretty fun, actually. Nice and spontaneous stuff.

got the idea from this dude.

don't really like how this one turned out. I think I should have left it black and white.
