Series of illustrations for a set of tarot cards with a Vancouver theme. I'm going to change around the colours a bit (probably less colours). Got some good feedback at crit, most people liked the black and white versions better.

poster series

Final project for poster class. The assignment was to do a series of posters around a theme/topic of your choice. Mine started off being about gender stereotypes, and then shifted to looking at fluidity of gender, that it is on a spectrum, and not binary. So I was looking at taking well known phrases or words usually associated with a particular gender and flipping them around. On the printing side of things, I had a lot of fun playing around with different materials and papers (japanese paper! squee!) These are a few of the posters I printed, I also did some on fabric, but haven't taken photos of them yet. All of the posters are screen-printed on various kinds of paper.

These ones were fun to do. I did a split-fountain technique (put two colours of ink on your screen at once) and pushed the ink around with the squeegee. This series was interesting to do because the blue and pink start off quite separate, and towards the end it becomes purple (which is kind of the point I am trying to make).

These posters are double-sided (silver on one side, gold on the other). 

This paper is really really cool and delicate, I love it! Unfortunately it's kinda expensive, so there are only two of these posters.

dinosaurs are awesome.

Warm-up drawings. Sometimes I spend a little too long on these, I think. but they are fun to do. I am on a dinosaur kick lately. Been looking at illustrations from some old (1960s-1970s) National Geographic magazines I picked up from the school library.

art sale time!

It's that time of year again... student art sale time! I am putting in a plethora of art pieces this year. If you are in the Vancouver area, please stop by and check it out. The sale is from Friday Nov. 23 to Sunday Nov. 25 at Emily Carr University (Granville Island campus). Emily Carr has a facebook page up with all the info.

This quote is from an interview with Audrey Kawasaki in the current issue of Hi-Fructose. She is speaking about her artwork, which features the same character in her paintings. But I also think it relates to an artist's relationship with drawing or creating in general. I was thinking about drawing when I read that. Sometimes it is very very frustrating (well a lot of the time for me). I have to work very hard to make anything look decent. But there are also times when a drawing seems to flow. It's the ups and downs that keep it interesting, I guess.
