The Hermit

This week I had a filming session with Upperstory Productions to create a behind the scenes process video. The video will be ready in the next couple weeks, so watch for that! The piece I work on in the video is The Hermit.

For this Tarot card I worked from a previous scratchboard drawing for the image. I took the image and re-created it in my linocut style.

Available in my Society6 shop! https://society6.com/erintaniguchi

This is the scratchboard I worked from.

Women in Illustration

I don't have much to post this week, so thought I would post this link to Women In Illustration, a daily blog by one of my former instructors. She highlights a historical woman illustrator every day this month.

The Fool

Another new Tarot card. This one is The Fool. I chose to focus on the Fool as a traveller on a journey through the Major Arcana of the Tarot set. The Major Arcana can be seen as the soul's journey through the different phases of life. The Major Arcana are the main cards of a Tarot deck, such as The Fool, The Lovers, The Hanged Man, etc.

I have included some process pics including a sketch of the layout. If you have been following my blog, you may know that I had an art show coming up. My art show at Aperture in Vancouver has been cancelled, I don't know if they are rescheduling me or not. I just found out yesterday, and am pretty disappointed.

The Moon

Finished The Moon Tarot card. This will be one of a series at my art show, opening February 29 at Aperture coffee shop. I did the head and body separately, so I could carve the head easier.

The Moon has to do with mystery, deep instincts and imagination. It also signifies dreams, myths and fantasies. The traditional Tarot card features a dog and a wolf on it, so I chose to stay with the wolf imagery, but instead create an anthropormorphic figure, symbolizing the wildness within ourselves, that sometimes comes out during the full moon.

The Moon

Just a rough sketch this week. I am working on some new Tarot cards for an upcoming art show. My art show will be opening on February 29 at Aperture coffee shop in Vancouver (Broadway and Alberta). It will be on for one month. This sketch is for The Moon.
